    Recommendation & Disclaimer

Buy your domain directly through Buildy if you can. When you buy through Buildy, we automatically configure DNS for your website AND your email (SPF, DKIM, MX, SSL). No copying records, no registrar confusion.

If you use a domain from GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google, Cloudflare, etc., you will be required to manage DNS yourself. You must copy every record Buildy shows you (A, CNAME for site + TXT/SPF, DKIM, MX for email) into your registrar, exactly as written. You are also responsible for keeping it updated.

By default your app lives at a Buildy address. Domains & Email is where you give it a custom home like yourname.com and a professional email like hello@yourname.com. This one page handles buying a name, connecting one you already own, sending emails from your brand, and receiving mail in a real inbox.

Three main parts of this page

    Purchase a new Domain

Search like a name-checker. If available, buy in one click. Buildy auto-configures website DNS, SSL, and all email records. This is the zero-hassle path.

    Connected Domains

All addresses that lead to your app. Always includes your default Buildy link plus any custom domains you add.

    Email Setup

Configure sending and receiving email from your domain. Three options: System emails, Marketing emails, and Inbox mailbox. See details below.

Step-by-step: Connect a domain you own

If you bought your domain elsewhere, follow this to point it to Buildy. If you bought through Buildy, you can skip this – it is done automatically.

    1

    Open your provider

Log in where you bought your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare). Find DNS, Domain Settings, or Manage DNS.

    2

    Find the Records table

Look for a list with Type / Name / Value. This is the internet phone book for your domain.

    3

    Copy website records exactly

From Buildy Domains & Email → How to Connect, copy A Records (root domain) and CNAME (www). Delete old conflicting A/CNAME first. Copy-paste, do not retype.

    4

Copy email records if using email

If you plan to send or receive email, also copy TXT (SPF), CNAME/DKIM, and MX records shown in the Email section. These prove you own the domain and allow delivery.

    5

    Save and Verify

Save at your registrar. Wait 10 min to 24h for propagation. Then click Verify in Buildy. It will turn green when successful.

What do these DNS names mean?

A Records: Street address of your site. Points bare domain yourname.com to Buildy server IPs.

CNAME Records: Nickname that makes www.yourname.com show same app as bare domain.

TXT / SPF: Permission slip that says Buildy is allowed to send email as you. One SPF record only.

DKIM (CNAME or TXT): Secret signature that proves your email is not spoofed. Required for inbox delivery.

MX Records: Mailbox location. Tells world where to deliver mail to hello@yourname.com.

    Email Options Explained

Domains & Email has three email capabilities. You can use just one or all three. Each requires a verified custom domain as the foundation, then extra DNS.

Option A: Transactional / System Emails

    What it does

Password resets, login codes, receipts, system notifications. Sent automatically by your app via Buildy. From name can be your brand, e.g., hello@yourname.com.

    Requirements
    • Custom domain connected and verified
    • Verified sender domain: add TXT SPF + DKIM CNAME/TXT from UI
    • Domain purchased via Buildy = auto-added; external = manual copy
    Steps
    1. Connect domain and verify
    2. Go to Email Setup, enable System Emails
    3. Add SPF + DKIM records if external, then click Verify Email
    4. Send test – check status shows Verified

    Option B: Marketing Emails

    What it does

Broadcasts, newsletters, sequences, drip campaigns. Used from Marketing & Ads studio and via Contacts automations. Higher volume, tracked opens/clicks.

    Requirements
    • Verified sender domain (same SPF/DKIM as transactional)
    • Physical business mailing address for CAN-SPAM compliance
    • Opt-in consent – only email people who agreed
    • Custom email sending may require Pro-2 or Agency plan (check Pricing)
    • Starter can still send via Buildy default until verified
    Steps
    1. Verify sender domain in Domains & Email
    2. Add business address in account settings
    3. Create Broadcast or Sequence in Marketing & Ads
    4. Pick from hello@yourname.com and send test
If external domain, ensure same SPF/DKIM verified. Marketing fails inbox placement without DKIM.

Option C: Inbound Inbox / Mailbox

    What it does

Receive email at your domain like hello@yourname.com inside Buildy. Reply, forward, or trigger workflows. Simple alternative to managing Gmail for this domain.

    Requirements
    • Custom domain verified first
    • Create mailbox in Domains & Email → Create Mailbox
    • Add MX records shown (receiving location)
    • May require Pro-2 or higher plan (hasCustomEmailAccess)
    • External domains must manually add MX at registrar
    Steps
    1. Verify domain
    2. Click New Mailbox, enter hello or support prefix
    3. Add MX (and keep SPF/DKIM) then Verify
    4. Open Inbox and send yourself a test

Advanced: teams that want full Gmail can connect Google Workspace instead – then manage email outside Buildy and skip Buildy inbox. Buildy still needs SPF/DKIM for its own system sends.

    DNS Management: Auto vs Manual

    If bought via Buildy

Zero manual DNS. We automatically create and maintain:

    • A records for website
    • CNAME for www
    • TXT SPF allowing Buildy to send
    • DKIM keys for signing
    • MX for inbox if you create mailbox
    • SSL certificate + auto-renewal

Just wait for Verified badge. Usually under 5 minutes.

    If external (GoDaddy etc.)

You manage DNS. You must copy every record Buildy shows:

    • A + CNAME for website (2 values)
    • SPF TXT – merge if you already have one, only one SPF allowed
    • DKIM – usually 2-3 CNAME entries with selector names
    • MX for inbox (receiving)

Example records panel shows Host/Name and Value. Host may be @ for root or specific prefix. Propagation 10m to 24h. Click Verify in Buildy after saving.

Deleting or typoing records breaks site or email. When in doubt, screenshot your DNS table before editing.

    Troubleshooting & Good to know

Email going to spam? Check: SPF exists, DKIM shows Verified green, you have business address added, and you are not using all caps or spammy subjects. Warm up new domain with low volume first.
SPF conflict? You can only have one SPF record. If you see two TXT starting with v=spf1, merge them into one line that includes both services, e.g., include:_spf.buildy.ai include:_spf.google.com.
Verify keeps failing? Wait 30 min, clear browser cache, then re-click Verify. Check you did not accidentally add space at end or used wrong Host field. Some registrars need @ for root, some need blank.
Using Google Workspace? Keep Buildy SPF/DKIM for transactional sends, and add Google Workspace MX for receiving in Gmail. You can still use Buildy inbox or Gmail – pick one MX set. Mixing MX from both breaks delivery.
