    Dashboard → Contacts

Contacts is your built-in CRM. Every lead and customer who leaves their info on your site – through a form, chat, import, or Buildy capture – lives here. Name, email, phone, tags, consent, and activity all in one place.

    Who it is

Full profile with email, phone, name, source, stage (lead, customer), and when they were created.

    Tags & segments

Short labels like quiz, webinar, seo-app so you can filter broadcasts, sequences, and exports fast.

    Activity

Open a contact to see every form fill, chat, purchase event, email open, and sequence step.

    How contacts get created

    1. Site forms using Buildy Contacts

Most Buildy forms ask for email and name and automatically call contacts(). This is your primary lead database. Always capture email on lead forms so you can follow up.

Tip: If you add a field like service_type or vehicle_model, Buildy can also save to a custom entity, but the email still belongs in Contacts.

    2. Chatbot and AI Agents

When your text or voice agent collects an email in conversation, a contact is created or updated and linked to that chat history. You can see what the visitor asked before booking.

    3. Manual add and imports

Click New Contact in Dashboard → Contacts to add one off. For bulk, use Import CSV. Map email, name, phone, and add tags like imported-webinar so you know source.

    4. Marketing tools

When someone clicks your Meta Ad and submits lead form, or subscribes via broadcast, they appear here with source and consent stored.

    Tags, email, and SMS

    Tags

Use short, lowercase tags. Examples: quiz, pricing-calc, seo-lead, customer, vip-support.

Filter broadcasts and sequences by tags to send the right message. Tags never replace email – they sit on top.

    Email

Broadcasts and Sequences send to contacts. You need a verified sender domain in Domains & Email to send from your brand. Starter can send via Buildy default until verified.

Always have consent – only email people who gave you their address through your site or opt-in.

    SMS - opt-in required

You can only text contacts who checked a clear opt-in box. Buildy stores sms_consent and shows it on the contact.

Use uncheck by default checkbox with language like: I agree to receive recurring marketing texts from [Brand]. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.

    Best practices

    • Never remove email capture to add SMS – make SMS optional
    • Open a contact to see full history before replying – context improves close rate
    • Use stages: lead → customer → churned to track funnel
    • If you use both email and SMS opt-in, keep them as separate checkboxes

    Ask Buildy

    Try in chat:

    • Add a lead form to my homepage that saves to Contacts with tag homepage-lead
    • Make sure my contact form asks for sms opt-in with proper legal language
    • Show me how to import 200 contacts from CSV and tag them referral
